Creativity manifests itself in many different ways, in the arts, in science and
in technology. It will hopefully come increasingly to the fore in politics and
international relations, thereby expanding our range of options. These must, however,
be compatible with basic values like human solidarity, human dignity and freedom
of expression.
A modern nation’s understanding of its culture is based on the recognition that
culture shapes identity. Contact across national borders and cultural barriers
stimulates vibrant cultural growth. International contact is vital if a culture
is to be part of the creative developments that influence all aspects of culture.
National cultures need the input of international interaction to continue developing.
It is in this spirit that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to focus on
Norway’s great composer Edvard Grieg. We are pleased to present a fresh take on
Grieg, in cooperation with Grieg 07 AS and the artists.
